Book 3
Lords of Deliverance

They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, Regan Matthews, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he's about to become a father.

Demon-slayer Regan Matthews never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he's ever wanted-a family.

Cindy's Review:
In Larissa's previous book "Immortal Rider" we saw a side story of Regan, an Aegi warrior, seducing the sexually untouched Horseman Thanatos or his Horseman of the Apocalypse name-Death. In our present story, Thanatos has been kept sedated by his brother and sister so that he would contain his rage against Regan, because she is now pregnant with Than's child. It has been foretold that the coming of this child would end the wrath of Pestilence from starting the Apocalypse. Than wakes from his sleep early and promptly kidnaps Regan and threatens her with sexual torture for all he's lost. While in Than's fortress many different enemies want Regan, her unborn child and Thanatos dead. Saving her life Than learns that Regan has a calming influence upon his rage.

Can love grow after a very bad start? Will the Apocalypse happen? Or merely be delayed? These and many other questions will be answered in this 3rd look into the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse: "The Lords of Deliverance". Will the stories continue? YES! In the magnificent Larissa Ione's 4th look with November's release of "Rogue Rider".

Excerpt:....hoping the baby would stay asleep. He was one hell of a kicker, and her organs were still recovering from his last round of hacky sack.

Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #21)
Book 21
 Anita Blake Series

I knew without doubt that if any more of the vampires tried to attack us I'd kill them, too, regardless of apparent age, race, sex, or religious affiliations. I was an equal-opportunity executioner; I killed everybody. My name is Anita Blake and I am a vampire hunter and necromancer, as well as a US Marshal. So when a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it's up to me to find her. And when I do, I'm faced with something I've never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people - kids, grandparents, soccer moms - all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving their vampire master. And where there's one martyr, I know there will be more...But even vampires have monsters that they're afraid of. And I'm one of them...

Cindy's Review:
I know many of you who have stopped reading Anita Blake books, and I'm very sad to know that you have missed an outstanding piece of work! Anita has started to grow-up, emotionally and meta-physically. She no longer pulls her gun and asks questions later. She doesn't need to. She is the monster that the monsters use to keep bad little vamps/shapeshifters and others in line. She's just that damn good at her job and she knows it. The people she works with know it too. So she no longer has to prove to anyone how badass she really is. So now it's time for Anita to spend time with the many loves of her life and straighten out any crossed wires or inaccurate readings from her emotions that might not be engaged the way some think they should be.

Young vampires are meeting together to try and take Jean-Claude and Anita out of the game, permanently. While trying to free a teenage girl from a forcible change two police officers are killed, which is what causes an open warrant to be assigned to take out all the vampires involved. Anita is trying to work within the new laws surrounding the vampires and find the perpetrators of the attacks through the city with as little harm to humans as possible. But when the danger comes to her home life and those she cares most for, will Anita trade herself to save them?

Quote of the day: I looked at him, and Dev said, "I think I lost skin off my bits, so she's safe; ow.

ARC The Sheikh's Redemption by Olivia Gates

He would claim the throne. And her…

For Prince Haidar Aal Shalaan, taking the reins of a kingdom in chaos is a matter of honor. Not that his rivals to the throne would be defeated easily. And then there is Roxanne Gleeson, the one woman whose memory he cannot erase, the lover who once rejected him. Now she pretends a cold disdain for their once—and still—desperate passion. But he will not be denied either the throne of his motherland or Roxanne back in his bed. One is his birthright, the other his heart's desire. And together they are…his redemption.

The Sheikh's Redemption by Olivia Gates gives us that destination read we all crave.   Gates does not disappoint in this enjoyable read that transports us to sands of the Middle East.  Prince Haidar is smokin' hot and Roxanne can't forget him, theirs is a  passion that will not die.  Harlequin delivers once again, stories that are perfect for daily reads.  There is just enough action, romance, and angst to keep readers happy.  I am looking forward to both Rasid's and Jalal's stories.  Rasid is scarred and wrapped in a cloak of mystery, and  Jalal, Haidar's happy go lucky twin, has secrets of his own, their stories scream to be told.  Jalal's story will be available September 2012 titled The Sheikh's Claim.

Book 4
Maiden Lane Series

A Masked Man . . .

Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he's the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles—protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide.

A Dangerous Woman . . .

Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she's asked to tutor the Home's dour manager in the ways of society— flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons—Isabel can't help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar—and his lips so tempting.

A Passion Neither Could Deny
During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything—the Home, Isabel . . . and his life

Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt is an exciting tale with the allure of The Legend of the Harlequin Ghost of St. Giles to entice us further. It is a wonderful story of saving the orphaned children off the streets of London using an urban legend of the times, to do so. Isabel and Winter spice up this story with their fiery passion, especially when a secret identity looms close to the surface. I was delighted when Winter's character became a chest thumping, alpha male and took Isabel in hand. This is the first book in the Maiden Lane series I have read, and I am looking forward to reading its predecessors.

ARC When Darkness Hungers by J.K. Beck

Book 5
Shadow Keepers Series

FBI agent Alexis Martin knows that vampires exist—because one of them killed her sister. Assigned to investigate a series of bizarre homicides in Los Angeles, Alexis believes the murders are the work of rogue vampires—perhaps even the monster responsible for her sister’s death. Now she finally has a chance for retribution. Even better, Alexis receives unexpected help from a sexy stranger as hungry for rogue blood as she is.

Serge is a centuries-old bad boy who stays off the grid—keeping his secrets, his hunger, and his heart safe from exposure. A new breed of vampire that feeds off other shadowers, Serge finds sweet torture in Alexis’s arms. Loving her is a chance to be free from the hiding, the loneliness, the secrecy. But the truth about what he is, and what he’s done, may banish him to the dark confines of his own private hell—and destroy the beginnings of their love.

When Darkness Hungers by J.K. Beck reunites enemies of old. Beck brings us Serge's story in this new story of the Shadow Keepers. I enjoyed the first three books in the series, but unfortunately When Darkness Hungers felt bland to me. The first two chapters captured me, but then the story seemed to drag on, and become predictable. Serge, for all his power, felt lifeless compared to Lucius and Vincent from previous books in the series. Alexis' character was wonderful, but I felt as if she was reckless when she confronted vampires, especially when she didn't posses powers. I do want to read book 6, When Temptation Burns, it will be Doyle's story and his character is one that we have been following since the beginning, it is due out, July 31.

ARC Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane

Book 5
Downside Ghost Series

A DEADLY HIGH

Magic-wielding Churchwitch and secret addict Chess Putnam knows better than anyone just how high a price people are willing to pay for a chemical rush. But when someone with money to burn and a penchant for black magic starts tampering with Downside’s drug supply, Chess realizes that the unlucky customers are paying with their souls—and taking the innocent with them, as the magic-infused speed compels them to kill in the most gruesome ways possible.

As if the streets weren’t scary enough, the looming war between the two men in her life explodes, taking even more casualties and putting Chess squarely in the middle. Downside could become a literal ghost town if Chess doesn’t find a way to stop both the war and the dark wave of death-magic, and the only way to do that is to use both her addiction and her power to enter the spell and chase the magic all the way back to its malevolent source. Too bad that doing so will probably kill Chess—if the war doesn’t first destroy the man who’s become her reason for living.

I gave this book a 5

Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane is the culmination of all that is Downside Ghosts. Chess will have to face her greatest adversary yet. A monster that is conceived from the horrors of her past, deep dark secrets that threaten to eradicate Chess. Her bond with Terrible will be tested once again, transcending into Chess' truth. Warring sides will finally meet for a battle that has been brewing from the onset, friendships will be tested, and loss, inevitable. I am truly delighted with this series, the story took so many interesting paths, and new questions were unearthed. I truly hope that this is not the last book in the series, there were so many points I wanted answered and weren't. Is the new church, really Truth, are the old religions dead? The Downside Ghosts series is amazing, it kept my attention from the very first book. Ms. Kane's ability to design such a unique world took this series to a whole new plane.

Review: Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane

Book 4
Downside Ghost Series

Reading, Writing, and Raising THE DEAD

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.

Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.

As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.

I gave this book a 5
Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane is a doorway to the magical. This surrendering story takes readers to all that is Chess Putman, with its gut wrenching descriptions and intense action. Chess is terrified by the emotions she now feels, yet she will face it all for what her soul yearns to embrace. No drug has ever come close to the ensnaring her as completely as Terrible. Once again Chess will have to use her powers as witch to save those she cares for and place the evil where it belongs. Another wonderful addition to an incredible series, Sacrificial Magic is a must read.
