Rome and Jules
by Tara Lain

Two werewolf households, both alike in dignity….

Rome Siracusa, youngest son of the alpha of the nouveau-riche Siracusa pack, wants to be a faithful son and pack member, but he’s got two big secrets. One, he’s blessed with enhanced hearing, vision, strength, and the ability to shift at will. Second, he’s gay, a fact he can’t admit to his deadly homophobic father.

Rome crashes a party at the mansion of his pack’s greatest enemy, the ancient, pure-blooded Havillands. Jules, the gay son of the drunkard alpha, is being married off to a rich entrepreneur. Smitten and moved by the beautiful male’s plight, Rome tries to find a way to save Jules—while digging himself deeper into pack politics and navigating his own arranged marriage. Secrets climb out of the caves as the werewolf gods speak through the mouths of their children, and the two great families clash, suffocating the hopes of star-crossed lovers.

Aria Naveed can't decide what's worse--being mate-bonded to Declan Valkenaar, the Alpha of the Pacific Northwest Pack, or owning up to the fact that she's developing feelings for him.

Her bond to Declan is the one thing keeping her grounded and preventing her new power from destroying everything and everyone around her.

If Aria doesn't tread carefully, especially where her heart is concerned, she'll learn the hard way that if you play with fire, you'll always get burned.

“Aria, you’re being unreasonable." He took a step forward and reached out for me. I sidestepped away, then put a hand on my forehead when the room began spinning.
“Unreasonable?” I ground it, “You asked men within the Pack to court me. You wanted to tie me to the Pack so you could use me.” I was practically yelling at him now. Maybe I wasn’t too tired to fight with him after all. This confrontation had been a long time coming.
“That was before …” he trailed off.
“Right,” I scoffed. “Before you bit me and tied me to you. Before you decided this little mate bond between us somehow made me your soul mate. Now you care about me as a person, is that it? But before I was just a tool for you to use and somehow I should be okay with it? I should be flattered that Declan Valkenaar, Alpha to the Pacific Northwest Pack, has picked me to be his mate? Is that what you’re telling me?”
I blinked hard as tears threatened to spill. Dammit, why did he have such an effect on me? I rubbed the ache in my chest and turned away from him.
He didn’t say anything for several long minutes.
I climbed into my bed and tucked myself under the covers as silent tears spilled down my cheeks.
The mattress dipped, and Declan slid into the bed beside me.
“Go away,” I choked out.
He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled my back flush against his chest.
“I’m a bastard.”
“I know.”
“And I don’t deserve you.”
“Glad you’re finally realizing that.”
I swiped at the tears on my cheeks and tried to pull away from him, but his grip was iron tight.
“But I love you.”
I sucked in a breath. He—what?
I froze, suddenly unable to form any coherent thoughts or words.
He didn’t say anything else, just settled in beside me with his arm wrapped tightly around my body and his legs now tangled with mine. I listened as his breathing slowly evened out and realized the exact moment when he fell asleep.

Declan told me he loved me. The bond that connected us flared to life at his words, and I suddenly realized, I believed him.

Early Review: Final Siege (Love Over Duty #2) by Scarlett Cole

Former SEAL Malachai “Mac” MacCarrick is all about the future he’s created with his Navy brothers in Eagle Securities, taking assignments in the most dangerous places, and doing things no one but ex-military would attempt. But when an urgent phone call brings his troubled past—and the woman he once loved—into the present, it’s a chance to redeem himself that he can’t refuse.

An investigative journalist researching an explosive story, Delaney Shapiro tells herself she got over Mac—and his role in her brother’s death—a long time ago. But the first moment she sees him at her bedside in an overseas hospital, she knows it’s not true. Every moment together rekindles the desire that once burned between them, and now that she’s a target for an emerging Russian arms dealer, Mac won’t let her out of his sight. To protect her, he’ll risk it all—including his life…

4-4.5 STARS

Final Siege is the second book in Scalett Cole’s Love Over Duty Series and it was one I was highly anticipating. After reading and loving the first book, Under Fire, I couldn’t wait to read this one! This can be read as a standalone though.

14 years ago, former SEAL Mac MacCarrick lost his best friend Brock in a tragic accident. He’s blamed himself all these years for Brock’s death and so has the love of his life (Brock’s sister). He never thought he’d ever have a chance at getting Delaney back in his life. Delaney is an investigative reporter and when she gets too close to finding out incriminating info on a weapons dealer, she’s kidnapped. But that’s just the beginning of the trouble that lies ahead. When Mac gets a call from a hospital in Germany telling him that Delaney is in the hospital and has been asking for him, he jumps on a plane to go to her.

When Mac sees Delaney again, he knows his feelings for her are just as strong as they were all those years ago and he’ll do anything to protect her. But for Delaney, seeing Mac brings back all the pain and anger from when she lost her brother, as well as feelings for him she wishes she didn’t have. She doesn’t want to let him back into her life, but now there are new threats to her life back in the states and Delaney knows going to Mac for help is her only option. Can they work through the hurt and painful memories and hope to heal from the past or will the past continue to get in the way of their happiness?

I really enjoyed Final Siege. It kept me turning the pages! A sexy, emotional and thrilling romantic suspense read!

Jan 22, 2018

In New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath’s first, unforgettable novel in a breathtaking new series, one man’s plan for vengeance turns awry when he falls hopelessly in love.

At birth, Mick Trewlove, the illegitimate son of a duke, was handed over to a commoner. Despite his lowly upbringing, Mick has become a successful businessman, but all his wealth hasn’t satisfied his need for revenge against the man who still won’t acknowledge him. What else can Mick do but destroy the duke’s legitimate son—and woo the heir’s betrothed into his own unloving arms...

Orphaned and sheltered, Lady Aslyn Hastings longs for a bit of adventure. With her intended often preoccupied, Aslyn finds herself drawn to a darkly handsome entrepreneur who seems to understand her so well. Surely a lady of her station should avoid Mick Trewlove. If only he weren’t so irresistible...

As secrets are about to be exposed, Mick must decide if his plan for vengeance is worth risking what his heart truly desires.

Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath kicks off a new and exciting new series!  Heath ushers us into the story from the very beginning with an air of mystery. Mick's need for revenge added a wonderful air to this historical romance. Lady Aslyn and Mick are two lost souls in search of the unattainable. Two very different paths join and open the door to desire and passion.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Early Review: Thanks Fur Last Night

Posted on Jan 20, 2018 with No comments

Jan 20, 2018

Enter a world of smoldering shifters in this scintillating anthology headlined by New York Times bestselling authors Eve Langlais and Milly Taiden with brand-new, never published novellas!

Bearing His Sin
Cole should have killed Anja the moment he realized she was his mate. Instead, he let her live and now they’re on the hunt, chasing the morons who think they can force her to marry another man. Like hell. And while this shapeshifting bear might have his share of sins, he’s not going to let little things like murder and mayhem prevent him from having the woman meant to be the keeper of his heart.

Bought by the Bear
Josilyn Martinez just needed the money to help raise her nephew. That's it. There's no other reason she would take a job posing as a shifter's mate so he can assure his grandmother he's settled down. There's no reason to stay at his place so they learn "more about each other." And there's definitely no good reason she should get involved with the hard, hot, and handsome shifter that's hired her.
Xander just needs a fake mate for a week to get his grandmother off his back. But what's a bear shifter to do when the impostor mate he hired turns out to be his actual mate? All sweet, luscious curves and a heart of gold, Xander's not going to let his mate get away. Now all he has to do is show her that they belong together, one kiss and touch at a time...

The Alpha and I
Devon Kincaid is happy with her new life in Lowman, Idaho. Her little bar on the outskirts of the tiny, isolated town is doing well, and she’s not even interested in finding a man. But when she finds a bleeding man—a hot, hard, handsome, naked bleeding man—in the snow one night, Devon brings him home to care for him. He’s definitely not like any man she’s ever met before, but what she doesn’t realize is that he’s not just a man…

Liam Murphy isn't simply a werewolf. He's the Alpha. In a heated battle with a deadly bear shifter, he's moved his pack to the Sawtooth Wilderness in order to draw danger from them. He was hoping to escape his problems—but the last thing he expects to find in the isolated Idaho wilderness was his mate. Fragile and unfamiliar with the violent supernatural world, the only way he can protect Devon is to make her what he is: a werewolf. He only hopes that in the process convincing her to enter fully into his world, that he doesn’t drive away the one woman he can’t live without.

Bearing His Sin is an interesting read. Humor and tone are at times over the top yet this is exactly what the author was going for. There's a spastic quality to the writing that makes it difficult to connect with the story at times. I fell in love with Babushka, a secondary character, who actually made the story memorable. The main characters are a good match but I wished the humor had been toned down a notch.

Bought by the Bear was a pleasing shifter romance. What's not to love about a shifter finding its one true mate! I enjoyed the characters and felt they were well matched. This story had a great plot and more potential than what was executed

The Alpha and I  has such a great mythology that supported the story.  I love all things werewolf and this story delivered the right amount wolfish goodness. I had issues with the heroine towards the end, I could not connect with her.  I wish the story had been longer so that the author could have had more time to delve into certain aspects of the story.

Early Review: The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke

Posted on Jan 19, 2018 with No comments

Jan 19, 2018

Dear Lady Truelove,

I am a girl of noble family, but I am painfully shy, especially in my encounters with those of the opposite sex...

For Clara Deverill, standing in for the real Lady Truelove means dispensing advice on problems she herself has never managed to overcome. There’s nothing for it but to retreat to a tearoom and hope inspiration strikes between scones. It doesn’t—until Clara overhears a rake waxing eloquent on the art of “honorable” jilting. The cad may look like an Adonis, but he’s about to find himself on the wrong side of Lady Truelove.

Rex Galbraith is an heir with no plans to produce a spare. He flirts with the minimum number of eligible young ladies to humor his matchmaking aunt, but Clara is the first to ever catch his roving eye. When he realizes that Clara—as Lady Truelove—has used his advice as newspaper fodder, he’s infuriated. But when he’s forced into a secret alliance with her, he realizes he’s got a much bigger problem—because Clara is upending everything Rex thought he knew about women—and about himself....

The Trouble with True Love is a fabulous read! Clara never thought she would have to take over the reins of the Lady Truelove column. She finds herself in uncharted waters, with no experience for inspiration. Yet when she encounters the sexy Rex Galbraith all reason seems to fly out the window. Rex is the perfect example of all the dangers that lie in wait for a young lady. Clara will have first hand knowledge for those seeking advice, unbeknownst to Rex. Rex and Clara are a superb match! The love of friendship grows into a beautiful romance that neither Clara or Rex hoped to find. I can't wait to read more in the Dear Lady Truelove series. Sure to be a 2018 favorite!

Early Review: Judgment Road by Christine Feehan

Posted on Jan 18, 2018 with No comments

Jan 18, 2018

An outlaw motorcycle club sets up shop next door to Sea Haven in the dangerously sexy new series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

As the enforcer of the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club, Reaper lives for riding and fighting. He's a stone-cold killer who turns his wrath on those who deserve it. Feelings are a weakness he can't afford--until a gorgeous bartender gets under his skin...

Near Sea Haven, the small town of Caspar has given Anya Rafferty a new lease on life. And she's desperate to hold on to her job at the biker bar, even if the scariest member of the club seems to have it out for her. But Reaper's imposing presence and smoldering looks just ratchet up the heat.

Anya's touch is everything Reaper doesn't want--and it brands him to the bone. But when her secrets catch up to her, Reaper will have to choose between Anya and his club--his heart and his soul.

Judgment Road is one hell of a ride!  The unique mixture of hardcore provocation as well as intrigue set the stage for Judgment Road.  Feehan's exceptional writing carries readers on an adventure.  Reaper is a superb alpha to begin the series with.  His gritty and abusive past add the right notes to the Topedo Ink series. Anya and Reaper are a brilliant match. Blistering scenes of emotional bonding delivers another memorable world to emerge myself in.  I can't wait to read the next story.
