Early Review: Nikan Rebuilt (Preload #3) by Scarlett Cole

Dec 30, 2017

Does the past ever really stay in the past?

Nikan can never be complete. He's got a rock group made up of the family he built for himself, more money than he knows what to do with, and a stream of groupies falling over themselves to date him. But none of them are her. The one regret that still plagues him, still taunts him with what he could have had.

Jenny is a survivor. Now running a group home after overcoming life in a cult lead by her manipulative father and watching her mother drink the poison he fed his followers, she fights to keep the light in the eyes of every boy who walks through her doors. Far from simple young love, Nik taught her to trust, showed her how good life could be. Before he formed the band. Before he became a famous rockstar. Before he destroyed it all.

A chance meeting after years of no contact shows the connection still blazes between them. But will they have their second chance at love? Or will the weight of their past crush their future together?

4 STARS

After reading and loving the first two books in the Preload series, I was very much looking forward to Nikan and Jenny’s story. I knew this was going to be another emotional read in this series.

Nikan and Jenny met years ago when they were both in group homes. Both had very painful pasts, but for different reasons. They became everything to each other and could see a forever kind of love for their future.

But Nikan makes a very big mistake one night while on tour with his brothers. A betrayal that causes him to lose Jenny, the love of his life. She moves away and he’s never gotten over the loss.

Now 8 year’s later, Jenny has come to temporarily work at the group home that Nikan grew up in. He is so shocked to see her when he comes to the house one day. Nikan is going to do everything he can to prove to her that he is not the same man he was back then and that he has never stopped loving her. Jenny still feels deep pain from what he did and doesn’t know if she can ever trust him again.

Nikan is determined to win her back. Even though she never stopped loving him, will Jenny be able to trust him again? Can they heal from the hurt and pain caused from his betrayal?

This was a really good, emotional, sexy, second chance romance.

Even though this is technically a stand-alone, I do recommend reading the first two books in the series first to get the full enjoyment of this series and the brothers’ backstories.

Early Review: Running Wilde by Jenn Stark

Posted on Dec 26, 2017 with No comments

Dec 26, 2017

It's not about the cards you're dealt...

Mistress of the House of Swords Sara Wilde finds herself the rising star of Interpol's Most Wanted list--accused of acts of supernatural terrorism and psychic manipulation, a new category of offenses clearly created just for her. Unwilling to drag her friends into danger, Sara's on the run, desperate to find solutions to the coming war on magic while keeping one step ahead of the authorities.

Interpol isn't Sara's only problem, however. While shoring up relations with old allies and updating her intel on the gods and monsters of the Connected black market, she unexpectedly acquires tools of world-ending power...tools that place her squarely in opposition with the Magician, the one being on earth she truly loves. Worse, everywhere Sara turns, she encounters fierce young psychics who seem to know more about her actions than she does...and whose inside information comes with the hint of devastating betrayal.

As Sara struggles to master both her own abilities and those of the extended Connected community, she realizes everything she thought she knew...about the Arcana Council, the Houses of Magic, the Magician, and especially herself...was spectacularly wrong.

How you play your hand can kill you when the game is Running Wilde.

5 STARS

Running Wilde by Jenn Stark is smorgasbord of magical delights. Sara is learning up close and personal that with power comes great responsibility. Experiencing new levels of her power will push Sara's threshold of pain, landing her into the arms of one of the most powerful members of the Arcana Council. The Magician is back in all his bronze glory and Miss Wilde is his playground! No longer is reading the cards for answers enough. Sara will have to decide how she will sacrifice herself for those who she loves. Stark nails another fantastic story and I'm certifiably addicted.

Early Review: The Rogue Is Back in Town by Anna Bennett

Posted on with No comments

Hide your daughters and your maiden aunts…Lord Samuel Travis is back.                     —The London Hearsay, special society edition

Equal parts scoundrel and seducer, he’s returned to London determined to mend the rift with his older brother. All Sam must do is take possession of a tumbledown town house. A seemingly simple task, except the house is occupied—by an infuriating, whip-smart beauty who refuses to do his bidding.

Miss Juliette Lacey’s wallflower days are over. She has a plan to turn her eccentric family into the toast of the ton—but the devilishly handsome rake trying to oust them from their home thwarts her at every turn. How can one man be so vexing and make her simmer with desire?

As her attraction to Sam deepens, Julie’s problems grow—she may have, once upon a time, secretly shared a kiss with his honorable older brother. Suddenly, Julie’s caught between a rogue and a marquess, between passion and respectability. Torn between two brothers, what’s a girl to do?

3 STARS

The Rogue Is Back In Town by Anna Bennett is the third book in the Wallflower series.   I enjoyed I Dared the Duke and was hoping that this book would take me to my happy place. I could never connect with Juliette and Sam. The story felt right in the beginning and then veered off for me.  I felt they made bad decisions and it weighed down the story. Julie was too bold by far. Sam was the seducer but it felt as Julie was making all the moves.  I hope the next book in the series will carry me away.

Movie Review: Bright

Bright Poster

Set in a world where mystical creatures live side by side with humans.
A human cop is forced to work with an Orc to find a weapon
everyone is prepared to kill for.

Loved it!  Exciting as well as intriguing!  I hope we see more!!!
Got to love the opening fairy scene.

Will Smith is at his best along side Joel Edgerton
Director David Ayer kills it with Bright.

Netflix nailed the cinema quality and I want more!
This isn't your "made for TV" movie.

Bold strong women take center stage in cop drama.
I thought Noomi Rapace (Leilah) was fantastic as well of all kinds of kick-ass.
Lucy Fry (Tikka) has made a mark.  I hope to see more of her.

If the final scene is of significance, we may just see more of this crew!
Fingers crossed.

Check it out!

Review: Call of the Wilde by Jenn Stark

Posted on with No comments

Hello darkness, my old friend…

Still recovering from an explosive family get-together, Tarot-reading mistress of the House of Swords Sara Wilde isn’t ready to return to the war on magic. Then the Magician of the Arcana Council uses her to summon an ancient Greek deity for his own devious purposes, and Sara’s suddenly up to her elbows in oversized egos and millennia-old conflicts. Conflicts that imperil the delicate balance of power between the most formidable mortals on earth and the gods who wait beyond the veil.

To keep both gods and monsters where they belong, Sara is forced to put out the first call to arms of the four Houses of Magic since the fall of Atlantis. Unfortunately, that call brings ancient enemies into the open and reveals truths about the Council–and the Magician himself–she would have preferred not to know. Worse, a brutal resurgence of violence rocks the Las Vegas Connected community and has Sara questioning everything she knows about her closest allies, while a nagging interest from Interpol evolves into a far more insidious threat. Sara’s done her best to become a team player, but with friends like these…

Better pray it’s a wrong number when you get the Call of the Wilde.

5 STARS

Call of the Wilde by Jenn Stark packs a punch. Much to her surprise, Sara is fitting in nicely as the leader of her house. She seems to be maneuvering the council and the other Magic Houses adeptly. As more details are revealed in this exciting series, Stark plants seeds of doubt and intrigue throughout. The delish Magician has always been secretive and manipulative, but he has stepped up his game. I can't help but wonder if his will of steel will finally break. When Sara and the Magician come together sparks fly, tensions are palpable. I can't wait to see what cards Stark is holding back from us. I need to see the Lovers card. The Magician and Sara were meant to be together.
