Season Review: Handmaid’s Tale- Season 2

Set in a dystopian future, a woman is forced to live as a concubine under a fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship.

For those who love to read, this series is based on: "The Handmaid's Tale" (1985) by Margaret Atwood.

Okay, so I went there! I gave Season 2 a thumbs down. I understand she felt the need to place her children's needs and those of the women before herself. But really?!?!  

It's an emotional thumbs down. I'm not happy with the ending, but I actually think the season was a hit.  You'll understand once you watch. 

The entire season was one huge "what the hell" moment. In a good way, but the ending left me feeling a certain way. The episodes were relentless this season. I couldn't wait for the following week. Those who delay their viewing pleasure until the season has ended, props to you. I couldn't wait. Season 1 had left me in quite the state of disarray. Season 2 held me transfixed. Aunt Lidia's ability to alter between human and terror keeps you on your toes. Not a dull moment this entire season. I have a friend that stopped watching because she fears Aunt Lidia. True story. 

The women of this theonomic world blindly follow the men, at times with such a level of abysmal ignorance. It was painful to watch. We saw transformation, manipulation, cruelty, and love rise above the horrors of servitude and resignation. This morbid world will have you clenching your fist and mumbling obscenities, especially if you're a woman. Characters of the Gilead world come alive. We start to see the veneer of fanatics begin to peel away, exposing untapped, malevolent natures. Monsters become pawns in this emotional roller coaster of a show. The weak find their power, and the mighty fall. Color and music allow a deeper connection for the viewers to evolve. The most chilling scene this season had to be the abuse at the hands of another woman. But things are beginning to change. There is nothing a mother will not do for her child.

You will have to watch, but be prepared for the ending. Oh, and you'll see it coming. You will see it in her eyes in those final moments. I can't wait to see what happens in Season 3.

This Week: How It Ends on Netflix

A desperate father tries to return home to his pregnant wife after a mysterious apocalyptic event turns everything to chaos.

This Netflix original stars none other than tasty Theo James!  Yes, the sexy morsel from the Divergent franchise and a slew of other movies.  It airs this Friday, July 13th!

Theo James is in love with Kat Graham's character and joins her father, played by Forest Whitaker, to find her.  

This looks really good!  I'll keep you posted.

Review: Good Behavior ~Season 1

GOOD BEHAVIOR

Letty Raines is a thief and con artist whose life is always one wrong turn, one bad decision, from implosion. Which is just how she likes it. Fresh out of prison, she's attempting to stay afloat. But when she overhears a hit man being hired to kill a man's wife, she sets out to derail the job, sending her on a wild collision course with the charming killer, and entangling them in a dangerous, seductive relationship.

     How did this series escape my notice?!?!  I’m addicted!  Unique set of characters and the plot possibilities are endless.  You know there’s going to be conflict, most of it reoccurring, but you don’t care.  Letty and Javier are eye candy, anytime they come together, explosive. Michelle Dockery (Letty) and Juan Diego Botto (Javier) are a magical duo. Dynamite chemistry and energy with these two from the very beginning. 

      Letty’s on again off again relationship with Crissy, vodka ,and an absolutely sexy Argentinian hit man, color this series with psychedelic drama. Did I mention Javier has an authentic accent? Oh, and Letty is a thief!  Love Michelle in Downtown Abbey and Netflix's Godless too!

If the story doesn’t carry you away, the fantastic music pairing will keep each episode memorable long after they have finished. I had to grab the playlist for both Season 1 and Season 2 on Spotify.   

Let’s talk fashion!  I have to say I love how Robbie McKeithan is dressing Letty. Her character truly is multifaceted and McKeithan captures them beautifully.  The selection of wigs that Letty wears throughout the series each had its own name on set: "Brittany" (long blonde), "Annie" (red), "Veronica" (short blonde) and "Katja" (short black bob). 

Good Behavior is a  must watch for lovers of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Review: GODLESS~ on NETFLIX

Frank Griffin, an outlaw terrorizing the 1880s American West, hunts down Roy Goode, his partner turned enemy. Roy hides out at a ranch as Frank's chase leads him to La Belle, New Mexico - a town mysteriously made up almost entirely of women.

THUMBS UP!

Loved Godless! Another win for Netflix.  La Belle is a town made up of only women, who happen to run the entire town.  Who wouldn't love that.  The women are kick-ass, not to be underestimated.  I don't want to give anything away because you need to watch this.  Jack O'Connell (Roy Goode)  is just splendid in all his glory.  I have the biggest crush on Michelle Dockery (Alice Fletcher) as well.  Complex relationships in a cruel world where those who surround you are what make you stronger, resilient in the face of adversity.  A must see for lovers of a good western set in New Mexico.
