For Owen Cross, the only thing that matters more than family is farming. As the oldest Cross brother, the land is his legacy, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make Cross Creek a success—including hiring local widow Cate McAllister to manage the bookkeeping tasks that are growing in his office like weeds. Cate’s as pragmatic as she is pretty, and she rattles his hard-fought composure at every turn.

Cate had known a lot of things about her husband before he died three years ago in a car accident, but how much debt he’d gotten them into wasn’t one of them. She needs her job at Cross Creek, even if her boss is both gruff and gorgeous. But Owen’s a family man, through and through, and the last thing Cate is interested in is anything—or anyone—with strings attached.

As Owen and Cate join forces to right the farm, they discover there’s more to the other than the surfaces shows, and that passion can be found in unexpected places. Can Cate heal from the loss of one family to gain the love of her life? Or will the past prove too much for the promise of the future?

4-4.5 STARS

Oh how I loved this book! This book features Owen Cross, the oldest of three brothers who run Cross Creek Farms along with their father. This is Owen’s legacy and he couldn’t imagine doing anything else other than taking care of the farm. But lately he’s been feeling like there’s something missing. His brothers have found love, but he’s never given himself time to find it for himself. But that all changes when Cate McAllister comes into his life.

Cate lost her husband daughter in a tragic car accident 3 years ago. Everyone in town treats her differently since then and she just wants everyone to see her as a regular person. She’s been working two jobs to support herself after she learned her husband had put them in major debt. Owen ends up hiring her to help clean up the mess of paperwork and bookkeeping for the farm.

Cate never sees herself getting close to someone again, but the more time her and Owen spend together, those lines are starting to blur. Owen is understanding, supportive and honest and even with his gruff personality, he gets her. Owen can see a future with Cate and a part of his family. Now if he can just get her to see that she deserves to be happy and have love in her life…

Crossing Promises is full of heat, heartfelt and emotional moments and a few surprises. A great addition to this series! I love the family bond between the Cross family too!

About The Author
Z. A. Maxfield started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back.  Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends. Three things reverberate throughout all her stories: Unconditional love, redemption, and the belief that miracles happen when we least expect them.
If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four can find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you give up housework.”

Early Review: Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega #5) by Patricia Briggs

Posted on with No comments

They are the wild and the broken. The werewolves too damaged to live safely among their own kind. For their own good, they have been exiled to the outskirts of Aspen Creek, Montana. Close enough to the Marrok’s pack to have its support; far enough away to not cause any harm.

With their Alpha out of the country, Charles and Anna are on call when an SOS comes in from the fae mate of one such wildling. Heading into the mountainous wilderness, they interrupt the abduction of the wolf–but can’t stop blood from being shed. Now Charles and Anna must use their skills–his as enforcer, hers as peacemaker–to track down the attackers, reopening a painful chapter in the past that springs from the darkest magic of the witchborn…

The Alpha and the Omega are back! Action packed discovery! Burn Bright spellbinds with a mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat. Magical fae objects and buried secrets add an extra edge to a prepossessing story. Charles and Anna's shrewd understanding of their enemies unearth the strange and deadly. There's a new shimmer to Briggs' writing, forging an intense story. Revealing new nexuses between Charles and Anna, takes the story to new heights. The love and care they have for each other are beautifully composed. The Alpha and Omega series has become a fluid and fascinating foray into the magical world of werewolves and the occult. I can't wait for the next story!

Do you ever want to know more about The Marrok? I do! With each book, Briggs allows glimpses of the inner workings of Bran. BUT it's never enough! I am obsessing a bit about him and Asil. Bran is MIA and the pack is a bit worried in Burn Bright and he... well you will just have to read it to find out. As much as I love all the characters in the series, Bran and Asil keep me up at night wondering of the possibilities. Burn Bright is a must read!

This sexy Texan was only a one-night stand.

Until he became her client—then her fake fiancé!

Penelope Brand’s hookup with billionaire Zach Ferguson was casual. Until he announces her as his fake fiancée to avoid scandal—and she discovers she’s pregnant. Now Zach demands they say, “I do,” for their child. But Pen won’t settle for a sham marriage. If Zach wants to keep his Lone Star lover, it’s his whole heart or nothing…

4 STARS

Lone Star Lovers is Jessica Lemmon’s first book in her new Dallas Billionaires Club Series and it’s a winner!

Penelope Brand and Zach Ferguson share an amazing one-night stand after seeing each other in a jazz club one evening. They thought that would be all it was, until they run into each other at the mayor’s birthday party two weeks later. Penelope is a PR genius and had helped the mayor’s sister out of a PR nightmare and was invited to the party. Turns out Zach is the mayor’s brother and the CEO of their family’s Oil business.

When a woman shows up at the party threatening to cause a big scandal for Zach, he quickly comes up with a plan to avoid the scandal and announces to everyone that Penelope is his fiancé. Unfortunately, Penelope wasn’t in on this plan, but she’ll go along with it to help him out and it means some more hot nights with Zach. They’ve definitely got the smokin’ hot chemistry in the bedroom. What she doesn’t expect is to find out soon after that she’s pregnant from their one-night stand! Their fake engagement has a timetable in Penelope’s mind, but Zach doesn’t see any reason for them not to get married. They are great together and why not make it the real deal?

Fiancé ✔️ Explosive Chemistry ✔️ Baby on the way ✔️ Love? ❌ Wait…Love? No…never love. Zach has been down that road before and gotten burned. He’s not going there again. Can’t he have it all with Penelope without the love part? Penelope thought she could in the beginning, but her feelings are growing into something so much more and she’s not going to settle for less than what she & their baby deserve. Does Zach share those same feelings or will he lose Penelope for good?

I thoroughly enjoyed Lone Star Lovers! It was a fun, sexy read and I was into it from page one! Jessica Lemmon’s books are a joy to read!

Early Review: Second Chance Cowboy (Crossroads Ranch #1) by A.J. Pine

Posted on Feb 20, 2018 with No comments

Feb 20, 2018

Once a cowboy, always a cowboy

Ten years ago, Jack Everett left his family's ranch without a backward glance. Now, what was supposed to be a quick trip home for his father's funeral has suddenly become more complicated. The ranch Jack can handle---he might be a lawyer, but he still remembers how to work with his hands. But turning around the failing vineyard he's also inherited? That requires working with the one woman he never expected to see again.

Ava Ellis broke her own heart the night she let Jack go. She was young and scared---and secretly pregnant with Jack's baby. Now that he's back and asking for her help, Ava sees her opportunity to right the wrongs of the past. But how will he feel about the son he's never known? Could this be their second chance---or their final heartbreak?

4.5 STARS

I so loved this second chance romance! A.J. Pine’s writing always pulls me right into the story from page one and Second Chance Cowboy did just that. This emotional, heartfelt story was everything I hoped it would be.

Jack Everett had a very painful childhood. When Jack and his two younger brothers lost their mother at an early age, their father, Jack Senior turned into a very different person. Jack always tried to protect his brothers as much as he could from the abuse. When Jack meets Ava Ellis his senior year in high school, he sees her as a beacon of light and hope for something good in his dark world. But one night at a graduation party changes everything and Jack and Ava’s future doesn’t go the way they planned.

Now 10 years later, Jack is back at the family ranch to attend his father’s funeral. It’s the first time he’s been back in years to see his brothers and his aunt Jenna. He’s wanted to stay as far away as possible and away from the painful memories of living in their family home and losing the only woman he ever loved. What Jack doesn’t know is that Ava has held a huge secret all these years; his son.

When Jack and Ava run into each other near her family’s vineyard, Ava is in shock. She never thought she’d see Jack again. She knows it’s time to tell him about their son and her reasons for keeping him a secret all these years. She also knows her feelings for Jack have never gone away. Will Jack be able to forgive her? Will he be open to another chance between them? Will he embrace fatherhood? Jack isn’t planning on staying at the ranch for very long, but maybe what he thought was his future just might take a different path.

Jack is having trouble fighting off the demons of his past though. He’s so afraid of turning out like his father. Ava sees the good in him and knows he isn’t like his father, but Jack must figure that out for himself before it’s too late and he risks losing Ava all over again; and this time his son too.

I loved everything about this book. I highly recommend this wonderful second chance romance. I can’t wait to read about the other two brothers’ stories!
