Early Review: His Dark Magic by Pat Esden

Posted on Dec 15, 2018 with No comments

Its power is legendary. It can fulfill every impossible magical desire.

But for one young witch seeking redemption,

the Northern Circle coven will challenge her skills—and her heart—beyond measure.

One tragic impulsive mistake made Chloe Winslow an outcast to her influential magic family. As a medical student, she wants to combine science with sorcery to heal those she hurt and right her wrongs. But brilliant, charismatic Devlin Marsh re-routes her plans with a once-in-eternity offer: membership in the exclusive Northern Circle, a mysterious Vermont coven known for pushing the limits.

Enthralled by Devlin and their mesmerizing mutual attraction, Chloe makes a dangerous sacrifice to help the Circle’s high priestess awaken Merlin himself—and learn his timeless cures. But a foreshadowing soon causes Chloe to doubt the Circle's real motives, as well as Devlin’s . . .

Now Merlin's demonic shade is loose in the human world, while Chloe and Devlin's uneasy alliance will pit them against ancient enemies, malevolent illusions, and shattering betrayal. And with the fate of two realms in the balance, Chloe must risk her untried power against a force she can't defeat—and a passion that could destroy her.

3.5 STARS

His Dark Magic was a bit innocuous.  Esden did at times capture me in this dark magical world.  Yet, the first half of the book felt muted, but then had my full attention as it came to an end.  This book has all the right vibes.  There's a sense of concealment bathed in magic that adds to the overall feel of the story. I felt the story had many great moments that were never followed up and fell flat.  This is the first story in the series which can give issue to the overall impression when creating new worlds.  Chloe and Devlin have potential as well as the story.  I would consider reading more in the Northern Circle Coven.

Brilliant!  Silence Fallen is by far my favorite Mercy novel to date. Electrifying action from start to finish!  Mercy shines as she learns more about her own powers and at what lengths she will go to survive to be with Adam again.   Enjoyed the journey to Prague with it's rich history and unique paranormal elements. Briggs delves deeper into the whys and hows of Mercy's abilities and history as she continues to escape and be captured throughout Europe. Unraveling the mystery of who is to blame will be no easy feat. The chapter headings were fantastic, it drew a wonderful timeline to place the events of the story.  A must read!!!

Posted on Apr 7, 2014 with No comments

An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy.

Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Night Broken by Patricia Briggs is another superb example of magic!   Our beloved Mercy is back, bigger and better than ever.  We get front row seats as she destroys monsters, with Adam and her pack at  side.   When most would hide from all the scary things that go bump into the night, Mercy and sexy alpha Adam are facing them head on!  Night Broken is fresh and aweless taking this series into new and exciting territory.  Briggs prodigious ability to take readers to new heights is what makes this series the bomb.

Uilleam MacRieve believed he’d laid to rest the ghosts of his boyhood. Until she’s claimed by him—a tormented immortal with heartbreaking eyes, whose touch sets her blood on fire.

A Full Moon On The Rise

With enemies circling, MacRieve spirits Chloe away to the isolated Highland keep of his youth. But once he takes her to his bed, his sensual mate becomes something more than human, evoking his savage past and testing his sanity. MacRieve sizzled with passion and angst!  Kresley Cole delivers another great read in the Immortals After Dark series.   MacRieve is sure to win your heart with his beastly ways.   Chloe is a kickass heroine that will tame the beast she loves.  I can't wait until the next book in the series, a whole slew of questions have been unearthed and only Cole has the answers.
