Review: Sharp Objects on HBO

Jul 12, 2018

A reporter confronts the psychological demons
from her past when she returns to her hometown to cover a violent murder.

The series is based on one of Gillian Flynn's first books, so I hope its as good as other adaptations.

Amy Adams will be playing the part of Camille Preaker, a reporter that goes back to her home town to cover a string of child murders. Camille has ghost in her closet and going back hometo engage with family is sending her to places she thought she'd never return to.  This will be Amy's first first time as an executive producer.

The first episode of Sharp Objects was gritty and dark.  You start to get a feel for the characters and a sense of how dysfunctional the family is.  We get a look at our first murder up close and personal. So many questions set forth in this first episode.  The substance abuse is rampant and in just about every scene. You are faced with the hell these characters live.  Amy is brilliant and brings a dark unknown edge to every scene.  You want to get a handle on her thoughts but come away with confusion. Her continuous flashbacks add an additional element to an already unbalanced present.  I'll must definitely be tuning in this Sunday.

Watch - Sunday nights at 9pm on HBO.

Here is the trailer:

Did you see the first episode?
What are your thoughts?

If you love Flynn and other bold female writers, this is a wonder article to read.
