Review: Castlevania ~Season 1 on NETFLIX

Jul 7, 2017

The last surviving member of a disgraced clan fights to save Eastern Europe from Dracula.

It is an adaptation of the 1989 video game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse by Konami, in which the vampire hunter Trevor Belmont goes on a quest to defeat the vampire Dracula.

Who doesn't love an epic love story?!?!  Dracula's consuming love for an intriguing human, who later becomes his wife and dies at the hands of an evil bishop, is the inception to the series. Dracula vows to punish all mankind.

Wow, talk about a start!  One year later when Dracula's demands are not met, his wrath is felt across the lands.

Meet Trevor Belmont.  Belmont, who at first glance seems to be drifter, happens onto the city of Gresit.   We soon learn he is a member of the Belmont family, with a reputation for dabbling in the black arts, if the church is to be believed. But the truth to the matter is that he prefers a pint to the company of others.

For those who have never played the game, Trevor is an ancestor of Simon Belmont the original in the games.  Trevor was later brought to life in the prequel game, his whip is called the Vampire Killer Whip.

I adore Trevor!   His character in the series is witty, kick~ass, and has an air of mystery.  I must admit, I have a crush.  There is more than meets the eye with this one.  As the series continues viewers begin to see his true character as he begrudgingly helps others. I like the fact that Trevor was chosen to begin the series.

I don't want to give to much away so you need to watch for yourself. There are only four episodes, it will be a good two hour binge. The season finale was interesting and it will have you wanting to know more.

How will Trevor and his unusual sidekicks stop Dracula?

Whether you are a fan of the franchise or not, but love all things Dracula, then this series is for you.  It has just enough intrigue, sword fighting, and magic to keep you entertained.

Here's another reason to look forward to Netflix in 2018!
