Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Year One (Rebirth) by Greg Rucka is exactly what Wonder Woman fans have been waiting for.  We learn much about Diana and her fellow amazons of Themyscira. Diana's love for her mother as well as her fellow sisters shines through. We too catch a glimpse of the complex and intimate relationships between the Amazons. Diana is eager to learn more about the world and wants to experience it. Her opportunity arrives in the form of Steve Trevor, when his plane crashes on the island. After the Amazons save his life, Diana sacrifices herself to return to his world. She does so with the knowledge that she may never see her beloved Themyscira again. It was so interesting to see the origins of some of Wonder Woman's cool weapons. I had a fit when I learned that the invisible plane decomposed. We will have to see if by the powers that be, she can summon it again. Her reactions to Steve's world are expected. I thought the fact that they went to the mall to eat Mexican was a hoot. Talk about culture shock. Fascinating to learn about Diana's gods and how she obtained her unique gifts from them. I look forward to reading more, and uncovering the truth with Wonder Woman. In this companion piece, Greg Rucka opened the door to Diana's past, without debunking all that we have learned, adding a bit of clarity.  The art by Nicola Scott was fantastic.
