Review: Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane

Jun 5, 2012

Unholy Ghosts
Book 1
Downside Ghost Series
THE DEPARTED HAVE ARRIVED.

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

I gave this book a 4

UNHOLY GHOSTS by Stacia Kane will hurl you into a world like no other. Kane has created her own species of books in this stellar series, one with it's own language.  Many assume that drug abusers lack moral principles or willpower, yet that assumption will be changed by one woman.  Meet Chess Putman, an employee of the Church of Real Truth,  a ghost hunter, a debunker, a witch with an addiction.  Chess is not your run of the mill witch, she is damaged, struggling to bury a past in the arms of drugs, and one of the most honest voices I've read in quite some time.  Unholy Magic is a must read, this story smacks of reality with it's array of tortured souls wrapped in a cantrap of superb magic.

Special thanks to Steph @ FANGSWANDSANDFAIRYDUST for the generous gift, friends that read are truly amazing.
