Review: A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang

May 1, 2012

Book 1
Abby Sinclair Series
The man of her dreams might be the cause of her nightmares.

Six months ago, Abby Sinclair was struggling to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Now, she has an enchanted iPod, a miniature unicorn living in her underwear drawer, and a magical marketplace to manage. But despite her growing knowledge of the OtherWorld, Abby isn’t at all prepared for Brystion, the dark, mysterious, and sexy-as- sin incubus searching for his sister, convinced Abby has the key to the succubus’s whereabouts. Abby has enough problems without having this seductive shape-shifter literally invade her dreams to get information. But when her Faery boss and some of her friends vanish, as well, Abby and Brystion must form an uneasy alliance. As she is sucked deeper and deeper into this perilous world of faeries, angels, and daemons, Abby realizes her life is in as much danger as her heart—and there’s no one she can trust to save her.

Cindy's Reveiw:

When a physically traumatized girl signs a 7 year contact to be a Touchstone (a conduit to open magical doorways)with Fae Protectorate Moira, daughter of the Queen of the Fae, Abby Sinclair is unprepared to be on her own when Moira disappears. Sinfully handsome Brystion comes looking for the Protectorate to ask for her help finding his sister, a succubus and others of her kind, Abby is drawn to him and agrees to help. Finding what has happened to the otherworld's otherkind becomes a very dangerous adventure through dreams and reality for the two. Add to the fun an enchanted ipod that can literally play EVERY piece of music ever played, a miniature Unicorn that loves to sleep in Abby's underwear drawer and danger with every step and you have a marvelous adventure by the wonderful Allison Pang...of course I'm going to share some outstanding quotes:

"I had a naked incubus in my bedroom. With a frying pan of half-cooked bacon and a hard-on. And a Unicorn bite on his ass. Christ, this was turning out to be a weird morning."

This next quote has Abby asking Brystion for a rope: "You'd better not be talking about your dick. I mean, you're well hung and all, but it's a Shadow Realm, not Fantasyland."

  1. I really enjoyed these books, Allison has a unique voice and the tale is inventive. You can't beat a freaky miniature unicorn.
